Biography
My name is Brother Allen Weir and I am the host of the live call-in podcast called Parents of Prodigals. I was born in Manhattan, NYC in 1960, and am the youngest of four children. Even at a very young age, I had a hunger and a curiosity about God, heaven, hell and eternity. Not knowing exactly where to turn, I experimented with different religions. At the age of 16, I gave up my search, suffering from severe depression, and believed that I was ultimately lost for all eternity and would never find the answers to my questions about who I was and why I was here. It was at that time when a cousin of mine invited me to his church in Yonkers New York. It was there that I first heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the plan of salvation, and how Jesus Christ could forgive my sins and give me eternal life.
At that moment I had not yet surrendered my life to Christ. However, it was at a church social gathering later that evening that I was asking my cousin about the joy and peace he appeared to have in his life. We spoke at length about how God loved me, sent His son to die for my sins, and would forgive me and give me eternal life. It was at that moment that I knew that I needed to recognize I was a sinner, needed to repent of my sins and surrender my life to Christ, deciding to live for him.
That was in 1976, and although there have been many mountain tops and valleys in my walk with the Lord, I have never regretted my decision. In this life here on Earth, Jesus said we would have difficulty and challenges, but walking with Christ overcomes any difficulty as I continue to trust in him daily for strength and encouragement, knowing my life and eternity are securely in his hands.
I attended Nyack College from 1980 to 1984, and I am the father of two adult children, who’s salvation I continue to pray for. It was with burden that I have for the salvation of their souls that I felt of the Lord to begin the Parents of Prodigals podcast in order to unite in prayer, petition intercession, and supplication with other parents, whose children have either backslid or have not yet come to the faith.
My wife Nicole and I reside in Monticello New York, and are members of Soul Purpose Evangelical Church in Middletown, NY. She is a loving woman of God who is a helpmeet for me, as I am for her in our continuing walk of faith as well as this ministry. We invite you to tune in every Thursday evening, from 7-8pm (EST) on the Parents of Prodigals podcast on PodBean.
God Bless
